How aesthetic worlds may move from screen to self
Some screen worlds appear to travel beyond viewing into language, style, place attachment, ritual, and self-presentation. “The Encoding Effect” is a name for the hypothesis that four conditions—identification, emotional salience, repetition, and coherent cues—may help explain when a fictional world becomes personally meaningful.
